Taylor Russell McKenzie was conceived in Vancouver, British Columbia on July 18th the 18th of July, 1994. She also grew up in Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal. Russell was born to white and black parents. She grew up with her mom's side. She said that the color of her skin was a reason that made her feel at odds with her peers as an infant. Their parents were struggling financially and had to move 16 times to get her father's job. Russell expressed her feelings about how despite the difficulties, Russell said that she was always a creative person from the age of a child. She hoped to be an actress and ballet dancer. She also wanted to be an artist. When she turned 18, she took her first acting class, and finally found her place. She saved the money from work to buy a car and drove to Los Angeles to audition. Once her savings ran out she would go back to work until she had enough money to be able to go back for another audition. She continued this routine for four more years until she received her first TV role.
