Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian was born in Canada and raised in the U.S. She's worked as an editor since the year 1995. Feminist Frequency provides videos, comments and an analysis of portrayals in popular cultures. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian and an American feminist media critique. Feminist Frequency is an educational site for non-profit organizations that explores the representations of females in popular culture narratives. Committed to deconstructing the stereotypes that are associated with females in pop culture, she works to highlight issues related to targeted exploitation of women and the other marginalized groups of individuals in the internet space. Sarkeesian holds a Masters in the field of political and social thought at York University. As a public speaker, she is highly sought after and has been a speaker at TEDxWomenXOXO as well as the United Nations Broadband Working Group. Passionate about issues of gender and feminism since an early age she launched her website Feminist Frequency in 2009 while she was still at University. In 2009, the ebullient young lady was harassed on the internet for her website that focused on the gender of videogames. This attack was not enough to stop her. Instead, it increased her importance to be a feminist as well as media critique. She has won numerous awards for her numerous notable contributions to the field of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian is an award nominated media critic as well as the founder of Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit organization which studies the portrayals of women in pop media and the narratives that surround them.
